A crase é a junção do artigo

Temos vários tipos de contração ou combinação na Língua Portuguesa. A contração se dá na junção de uma preposição com outra palavra.
Na combinação, as palavras não perdem nenhuma letra quando feita a união. Observe:
• Aonde (preposição a + advérbio onde)
• Ao (preposição a + artigo o)
Na contração, as palavras perdem alguma letra no momento da junção. Veja:
• da ( preposição de + artigo a)
• na (preposição em + artigo a)
Agora, há um caso de contração que gera muitas dúvidas quanto ao uso nas orações: a crase.
Crase é a junção da preposição “a” com o artigo definido “a(s)”, ou ainda da preposição “a” com as iniciais dos pronomes demonstrativos aquela(s), aquele(s), aquilo ou com o pronome relativo a qual (as quais). Graficamente, a fusão das vogais “a” é representada por um acento grave, assinalado no sentido contrário ao acento agudo: à.
Como saber se devo empregar a crase? Uma dica é substituir a crase por “ao”, caso essa preposição seja aceita sem prejuízo de sentido, então com certeza há crase.
Veja alguns exemplos: Fui à farmácia, substituindo o “à” por “ao” ficaria Fui ao supermercado. Logo, o uso da crase está correto.
Outro exemplo: Assisti à peça que está em cartaz, substituindo o “à” por “ao” ficaria Assisti ao jogo de vôlei da seleção brasileira.
É importante lembrar dos casos em que a crase é empregada, obrigatoriamente: nas expressões que indicam horas ou nas locuções à medida que, às vezes, à noite, dentre outras, e ainda na expressão “à moda”.  Veja:
Exemplos: Sairei às duas horas da tarde.
À medida que o tempo passa, fico mais feliz por você estar no Brasil.
Quero uma pizza à moda italiana.
Importante: A crase não ocorre: antes de palavras masculinas; antes de verbos, de pronomes pessoais, de nomes de cidade que não utilizam o artigo feminino, da palavra casa quando tem significado do próprio lar, da palavra terra quando tem sentido de solo e de expressões com palavras repetidas (dia a dia).
